luke b (2)The death of Michael Jackson highlighted his message that “we are the world, we are the children” who are pure gifts of Love and Light.  At the same time, we all know about the dark side of Michael’s life.  The early abuse that he reportedly suffered from his father caused him great emotional harm which may have contributed to his addictions and strange behavior as an adult.

Destructive early parenting is preventable. I felt called to this work as Mothering Coach after spending 25 years as a clinical therapist working with children with learning disabilities, attachment disorders, autism and emotional problems. This professional experience taught me that we have to start working early to begin to serve children as they enter the womb.  It is very difficult to work with adults suffering from debilitating prenatal and perinatal trauma and childhood wounds that have sadly impaired their lifelong self-esteem, and feelings of safety. Too much time is spent in therapy helping adults try to recover from physical and emotional assaults to their inner child, instead of preventing those assaults in the first place.

Bright futures can begin with a loving start from conscious parents who accept responsibility to protect the well-being of their vulnerable children. Parenting knowledge and empowerment needs to be is an essential part of our education system, ideally starting in High school and college. Let’s make a change for the better by honoring the sweetness and innocence of our most vulnerable citizens. The earlier that we can create a healthy imprint, the better the chances for a happy and successful life.
